Solo travel is an empowering journey of self-discovery, freedom, and personal growth. Yet, for women, it often comes with unique challenges, particularly around safety and the need for support. This is where NomadHer steps in, offering a global community that ensures women can explore confidently and fearlessly.
Recently featured in Google Play’s #WeArePlay campaign, NomadHer is celebrated for its mission to redefine solo travel for women worldwide.
This recognition highlights not just the app, but the movement it has sparked in empowering women to travel on their own terms.
NomadHer’s journey is rooted in empowerment, connection, and courage. Nomad founder, Hyojeong, was inspired by her own experiences as a solo traveler. With a deep passion for solo adventures, she recognized that women often face unique safety concerns and isolation when traveling alone. This led her to create a platform where women could access resources, find trusted travel companions, and connect with a global support network—ensuring that no woman ever travels alone.
"Solo travel is not just about seeing the world; it’s about discovering your own strength and breaking barriers," says Hyojeong. "NomadHer is here to ensure women can travel safely, fearlessly, and with the support of a global community."
Since its launch, NomadHer has grown to connect women from over 190 countries. The app offers tools like real-time safety updates, verified local connections, and, importantly, the travel buddy matching feature, allowing women to find trusted companions for their solo journeys.
The Google Play team followed Hyojeong through the city, visiting the places and meeting the people who have shaped her vision. A key moment was a visit to SurfBay, where they met Nauen Kim, CEO and a key partner in NomadHer’s Busan surfing camps. This collaboration reflects NomadHer’s dedication to creating safe, inspiring spaces for women to explore, learn, and thrive through outdoor adventures like surfing, hiking, and more.
Another significant stop was NomadHer’s headquarters at the Busan International Finance Center (BIFC), where Hyojeong and her team were focused on developing features to support solo travelers.
One of the standout features is the travel buddy matching service, which helps solo travelers connect with trusted companions. This feature goes beyond just finding a travel partner—it fosters a community where women can share experiences, uplift one another, and travel confidently together.
While in Busan, the Google Play team explored Hwangnyeongsan, a mountain that offers breathtaking views of the city. For Hyojeong, this spot represents personal reflection and inspiration.
The dynamic energy of Busan has deeply influenced NomadHer’s vision, fueling the app’s mission to create a world where women can travel confidently and fearlessly.
The visit culminated in a powerful Female Music Night, where pioneering DJ Grace Kim took the stage to celebrate women’s empowerment through music. Local women from the NomadHer community gathered to share their creativity, connect, and support each other. The event was a celebration of solidarity, reminding everyone of the strength women have when they come together to amplify each other’s voices.
Supported by the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and the French Institute, this event highlighted the global reach of NomadHer’s mission. It showcased the app’s dedication to elevating women’s voices and fostering a community where stories are shared, courage is celebrated, and dreams are nurtured.
NomadHer is not just changing the way women travel—it’s rewriting the narrative of solo travel. The app connects women who inspire each other, encouraging them to embrace adventure, push their boundaries, and travel safely and fearlessly.
From its origins to its growing impact globally, NomadHer is building a world where women feel supported, inspired, and confident as they explore the world on their own terms.
NomadHer’s feature in Google Play’s #WeArePlay campaign is a historic milestone, making it one of the first Korean apps to be selected for this prestigious recognition. It underscores both the innovative spirit of NomadHer and the growing recognition of South Korea’s vibrant startup ecosystem on the global stage.
Through NomadHer, women are not just traveling—they are redefining what it means to journey alone. By creating a space where safety, community, and empowerment are at the forefront, NomadHer is proving that solo travel can be a transformative, empowering experience for women worldwide.
Together, we prove that she can travel anywhere—safely, boldly, and with unwavering support.
