At the NomadHer Jeju Mermaid Camp, you'll not only engage in Haenyeo(aka. female divers) diving with Enjoo, a professional local Haenyeo but also uncover the natural beauty of Jeju Island.
Jeju Island, a volcanic island in South Korea, boasts lush forests🍃, stunning beaches🏖️, volcanic craters🪨, and the majestic Mount Hallasan🏔️.
This island is a designated UNESCO World Natural Heritage site, and its most distinctive cultural feature is the Haenyeo – local female divers 🤿 in Jeju Island who dive into the sea, collecting various marine species for harvest, such as seaweed, abalone, sea urchins, and other seafood.
During this Jeju Mermaid Camp, you will have the opportunity to discover a centuries-old tradition among local female divers with the Haenyeo host Enjoo and her family, all while enjoying breathtaking natural scenery through diving and joyful walks with like-minded female travelers!
👩🏼 ”This will be a lovely part of your Jeju holiday. The owners are a Hanyeo wife and husband, and they take care of every single need. Breakfast is a scrumptious affair with a traditional meal cooked by the husband himself. They will then tell you all about the history and tradition of the Jeju Haenyeos (female divers) which is fascinating and absolutely inspirational.”
👩🏽 “What a beautiful place! My family felt as if we were home while staying here. It’s quiet, surrounded by nature, and is close to many local attractions. Breakfast was delicious and the host was very friendly. We received a lot of local recommendations for which we are so thankful. I wouldn’t mind coming here again. Truly a hidden gem in Jeju.”
Haenyeos refer to local female divers 🤿 in Jeju Island who dive into the sea, collecting various marine species for harvest, such as seaweed, abalone, sea urchins, and other seafood. We will meet a real Haenyeo Eunjoo who settled down her new life as a Haenyeo 10 years ago. 🧜♀️ She learned the ways of the Haenyeo to become a professional and settled down in Jeju Seogwipo with her family. To conserve and spread the culture of Haenyeo locally and globally, she teams up with her husband and young Haenyeos who start Haenyo diving as a job in Jeju Island. The Haenyeo team organizes a cultural workshop for tourists to empower the local Haenyeo community. During this Jeju Haeneyo Camp, you will have the opportunity to experience a centuries-old tradition among local female divers while enjoying breathtaking ocean nature along the way.
